Top 7: books to read before you watch their adaptations

This year, book adaptations have been a big theme. So many have been done and quite a few are already underway or about to premiere soon. But before that, or before you watch the adaptations that have recently come out, I recommend reading the books. So here are my top 7 books to read before you watch their adaptations:

1. The Darkest Minds

This series has been on my TBR for years now, and the movie was the perfect push to get me to read it already. Although I haven’t finished all the books yet, I’m in love with it! The characters are fantastic and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I also really enjoyed the movie and Zu was my favorite ever. So cute!

2. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

The movie just came out on Netflix, and knowing it was coming was also what got me to finally pick the books out of my shelf and finally read them. And I’m so glad I did because I love them! The movie is also fantastic and watching it makes me so happy and giddy. I think I prefer Peter K in the movies though.

3. Crazy Rich Asians

Although it hasn’t premiered where I live yet, I’ve heard nothing but great things about this movie. It’s also great that I still have some time to read the book before I can watch the movie. I hear it’s hilarious and has some great family dynamics, which is just my type of book.

4. A Discovery of Witches

This book is getting turned into a tv show with one of my favorite actresses as the lead, Teresa Palmer. I believe it comes out in September, which gives me some time to finally pick it up. These books (it’s a trilogy) are my best friend’s favorites and she has been telling me to read them since forever. Looks like I’ll get to it sooner rather than later.

5. The Hate U Give

If you haven’t read this book yet, you’re missing out. It was one of my favorite reads from last year and I’m still obsessed with it. It’s such an important, powerful story and it’s so relevant, especially right now. The movie looks great and I can’t wait to go watch it. It comes out in October.

6. After

This book has some history: it started as a fanfic on Wattpad, became a best seller and now it’s been turned into a movie. They are still filming it while I write this post but the cast looks great and I love Anna, the author. I remember reading it while it was still being updated daily on Wattpad and how thrilling it was. All my friends were reading it as well and every morning we would get together to discuss the last update. It was great. The movie is set to come out next year.

7. Throne of Glass

Despite loving Sarah J. Maas, I only ever read the first book in the Throne of Glass series. A shame, I know. What’s worse is that I own almost the entire series, and I really enjoyed the first book, but for some reason, I never started on the second one and that was that. Well, now that it’s going to be turned into a tv show I have the perfect motivator to get reading!
